According to astrology, as a scorpio I will be given great success and popularity this year… I’m not complaining!
Every December 31st, people gather ’round and muster up a new year’s resolution. Sometimes it’s something small and easily attainable and other times it’s rather large and dreamy. This year, I was inspired by stumbling across my horoscope for the year 2018. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I looked at a horoscope but this year’s prediction resonated with me so perfectly that it immediately became the tone of January 1st & hopefully the theme of the rest of the new year.
What is my Resolution for 2018?
I can be hesitant to choose a resolution. Not because I don’t believe in bettering myself but because sometimes putting so much emphasis on one (or even two, three, or four) resolution(s) can make the task daunting and eventually, dwindle away. However, this year I am inspired to set realistic goals that not only foster growth in myself but also my business. One of my top resolutions is to work on my writing style. This year I really want to focus on creating a style of writing. Something recognizable. Something a reader would want to come back for more of. Another resolution of mine is to focus on quality over quantity in all aspects of my life. It can be easy to fall into the pattern of thinking more is better but in reality, is it really? In most experiences, less is more and quality trumps quantity. Last, I want to be more selfish in the most humble way, of course. Too many times I am stuck worrying about others before myself… “what would they think? What would they say?” Instead, I should be thinking, “What do I think? What would I say?” Changing my way of thinking in this way, I predict, will be liberating. I hope that it opens opportunities to myself that I find important. Instead of forcing myself to do things inspired by others, I will gear my focus towards things I inspire within myself.
You May be Thinking, But How do I Really Keep my New Year’s Resolution?
Keeping your resolution is always the hardest part. We go into the year so eager yet typically don’t keep the promises we make to ourselves. Here are some of my quick tips to keep you determined to meet your 2018 goals:
- Keep your goals attainable, at least most of them. Having 5 huge goals or big life changes will leave you overwhelmed. Think, “how can I keep this simple?” Instead of deciding that starting January you will completely change your entire way of eating, change one small thing each month to work up to a bigger goal. For example, January you might eat less dairy, while in February completely get rid of any dairy in your diet. This is less intimidating and will definitely keep you on track to reach your overall goal.
- Write your goals down! This one is huge for me. When I write things down, I am so much more likely to remember exactly what was going on in my head when I first thought it and it keeps me accountable.
- Mark deadlines and meet them. When exactly do you want to meet your resolution or goal? Mark it on the calendar and celebrate when you reach it! Maybe you want to buy a new mug because one of your goals is to start drinking more green tea or hot lemon water in place of coffee. Well, once you stick to it for a week reward yourself with one!
- List small things that may help you reach your overall goal. Lets go back to the cutting dairy goal… you could list some dairy free recipes or list dairy free brands that you can refer to when you think you may be slipping.
What I Look Forward to in 2018
Now, lets get into the fun stuff… what I look forward to most this year! I have a feeling 2018 will be a great year. Yes, everyone and their mother says that when the new year rolls in. But, I know there are so many happy things that will happen in 2018. Shaun has started his career and will be on his own in six months (eek!) and I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes. I have been studying marketing based in psychology and neuroscience and plan to share what I learn on mandyleedesigns.com as well as in a course I hope to offer to my readers soon!! I still have Golden Coast Jewelry pieces to sell and can’t wait to have more customers. I should graduate from college with a BS in communicative disorders this year. And, I have big hopes for Poised Avenue this year! I have the help of my sisters with photography and brand outreach and have hired an assistant to help with brand outreach as well. This is also the eighth year of dating Shaun! The number eight symbolizes infinity… infinite love and success. It’s also two thousand EIGHTeen 😉 . I’m ready for it all!!
My boots were made for walkin’… right into the new year. Shop them here.
