Happy Thursday! A few days ago, my sister texted me saying, “oh my gosh, red wine hot chocolate is a thing”. I instantly knew I had to 1) try it out and 2) share it with you guys! I absolutely love it! It’s the perfect warming drink (if only it snowed here where I live!) It’s deep and chocolatey with a warming that coats your throat. It’s awesome.
When we made it at my house, all we had on hand was a cheap red wine… like $2 bucks cheap. I’m not sure why we even had it in the house lol! Anyway, that’s the only thing that spoiled it a bit, because the wine did not have a smooth taste by any means. But I would definitely recommend using a red wine with mocha or chocolate notes. I have even seen spicy imported red wines at Bevmo, and I am so curious about how that would taste in this cocoa… who else thinks it’d be really good?
I decided to roast the marshmallows for this cocoa, because I thought the smokiness/char would pair really well with the red wine… and it did!
