Hey all! Today’s post is a tad different than my normal posts. I was tagged by my blogging friend Katie from www.kasuallykatie.com to complete a blogger Q&A (read Katie’s Q&A here). I love answering questions, especially when I get to share a bit more about myself. So, here it goes! I would love for you to take some time to read through my answers and get to know more about me, my thoughts on blogging, and why I started Poised Avenue.
1. Why did you start a blog?
I had always dreamt of starting a blog. Well, not always, but it felt like forever before I actually began to work on Poised Avenue. I have, however, always loved fashion, photography, writing, and being creative. When blogging started picking up and online influencers were becoming more and more well known, I knew that’s what I wanted to do, too. One ordinary day, I just sat down and did it. Ever since, I have absolutely loved it. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Although blogging and maintaining a website is so much hard work, I hardly ever feel exhausted by it. It’s honestly my favorite thing to do. Every day I want to know what I can do to further Poised Avenue. I wonder how to make it better and look forward to what the future holds for it.
2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from things I truly love. It can really be anything, from something I use day-to-day or something I read or saw on someone else’s blog. For example, if I’m shopping, in the back of my mind is “what can I buy that I can write a blog post about?”. So really, anything can inspire me. Actually, I think just having a blog inspires me. I hope that makes sense.
3. What words do you have for those who are scared to start their blog?
Go for it! You really have nothing to lose. It’s totally worth the jump and if you’re still thinking about it, you have enough passion to succeed. I love to live by the quote, “If it’s still in your mind, it’s worth doing.”. It’s so true. If you ever need any advice I would love to help out! Plus, check out my series How to Start a Blog.
4. What are the ups and downs of having your own blog?
I would definitely say there are many more ups than there are downs. But, one down is all of the hard work you have to put into it (although, like I mentioned above, if you love blogging it won’t feel like work). The ups? Where do I begin!? For starters, blogging is a major creative outlet. It gives new purposes to the things you already love (like how shopping has now turned into a creative quest for me). Another up is all of the new opportunities it allows for. Like, meeting other #GirlBoss bloggers, working with awesome brands, even the chance to turn it into a business!
5. What other interests do you have besides your blog?
I love learning about the brain, especially in children. I always have. I study communicative disorders in school with a minor in child development, and my favorite classes are always the ones that involve the brain. In high school, psychology was my favorite class (so much so that I took it twice). I love knowing (or trying to figure out) why people do the things they do. The brain is such a powerful thing and it seriously is so intriguing to me. I would love to take a class on the psychology of marketing, especially specifically to online marketing (blogging)… if you know of one PLEASE tell me! I also really love art. By “art” I mean anything that gets my creative juices flowing… it can honestly be about anything. I am a sucker for museums, too. Although, I don’t get around to many. I love the hands-on learning. My all time favorite museum I have ever been to is the Bodies Exhibit, which displays and explains body parts (preserved from actual people!!)… including the brain and it’s functions… how cool?! I really want to visit LACMA and The Griffith Observatory, too. OH, and my boyfriend and I love to explore new places and eat in whole-in-the-wall, unique spots. So fun. I am realizing I can really go on forever about the things I love to do… haha! I guess I am pretty lucky in that 🙂 .
6. Where do you hope your blog will take you into the future?
I really hope to turn it into a business and be able to work from home. I have always dreamt of being a teacher, or working with kids. But I also would absolutely love to work from home and take care of my own babies (one day). I think it’d be the coolest thing. It’s also something I love doing, which makes it that much cooler. I have thought of starting a clothing shop based on Poised Avenue (hence Shop Poised Avenue… that sadly crumbled to dust). It’s a lot of work and takes a lot of start up money. I have also thought of selling fashion related e-courses. That’s my most current project and I am so excited to get it going. I hope it turns out great and you all love it!
7. Who are you inspired by?
I am inspired by all of the amazing lady’s who blog for business. I think it’s truly awesome and so so inspiring!! I can’t wait to one day be at that point with Poised Avenue.
Thanks again to Katie for tagging me to do this Q&A… I had so much fun answering these questions! I now tag my sister Alyson, and friends Tanner, Andrea, and Morgan. Can’t wait to read your answers to these questions ladies! XO
