No poet has yet sung the full beauty of our poppy. No painter has successfully portrayed the satiny sheen of its lustrous petals. In its abundance, this colorful plant should not be slighted: cherish it and be ever thankful that so rare a flower is common. -John Thomas Howell.
If you live in California, you know we are in the middle of a major heat wave. I usually don’t love the heat, but I am actually really enjoying this week’s weather. Maybe it’s because I know there is a break in sight, with cold rain in the forecast next week. Either way, 80-90 degree weather makes for the perfect day to go out and explore flower fields… right?! Well, even though we have had pretty hot weather lately, we have had way above average amounts of rain this winter. And, with that comes lots of green grass, fresh air, and spring flowers. My sister and I have found small patches of blooms here and there, but nothing like this enormous field of poppies in the hills off the freeway near our house. I don’t ever remember seeing poppies in California in the amount that I saw these. It was gorgeous. I loved the way the golden orange flowers complimented the sky, making it seem even more blue than ever before. It was so much fun to prance around on the hill to take these photos. I can’t wait to go back to shoot more!
Off the shoulder tops are HUGE this season. Walk in to any store anywhere and you’ll see the racks filled with these types of tops. I love the way they look and I think showing some shoulder can be really feminine and pretty, but #LetsBeReal… How dang annoying is it to not be able to move your arms up past your belly button without your shirt springing off your shoulders up to your neck?! Ugh. Maybe I am just not graceful enough to wear them haha. None-the-less, I can’t get enough of this outfit. It’s perfect. I purchased this denim skirt (also a huge trend this season) on sale for about $10 from Express a long while ago, and it’s been collecting dust, just waiting for the perfect top to come around to pair it with. And… here it is! Plus, my sun hat from my trip to Hawaii seriously (and literally) tops it off. Now all I need is to work on my tan 😉 .
